1. About this policy
Tasmanian Electrical Services Pty Ltd (ABN 76 130 820 307), referred to in this policy as ‘Tasmanian Electrical Services’, ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’, operates in Tasmania, Australia. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information in connection with our website, enquiries and services.
This policy is intended to be read consistently with applicable Australian law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles to the extent they apply to our business. Nothing in this policy excludes or limits any rights or protections available under applicable law.
2. Information we collect
When you contact us or request a service, we collect the information reasonably needed to deal with your request. Depending on your dealings with us, this can include your name, email address, telephone number, business or organisation, property or service address, the work you need, and information contained in your messages and correspondence.
If you proceed with a quotation or service, relevant records can also include appointment details, job instructions, photographs or documents you provide, quotations, invoices, payment records and warranty or service history. These details are not all required by our website enquiry form.
Our website and the providers that deliver it can also receive technical information, including IP addresses, browser and device details, requested pages or resources, referral information and access times. Our Cookie Policy explains browser storage and external website features in more detail.
Please provide only information relevant to your enquiry. Do not include passwords, full payment-card details, identification documents or sensitive health information in a general website message. If information about another person is necessary, ensure you are authorised to provide it.
3. How we collect information
We usually collect information directly from you when you complete our enquiry form, telephone or email us, request a quotation, arrange work or otherwise communicate with our team.
Where relevant to a job, we may also receive information from an authorised representative, property owner, property manager, builder or another person coordinating the work on your behalf.
Our online enquiry form is provided by Jotform. Information you submit through that form is processed by Jotform and made available to us to manage your enquiry. Copies of enquiries may also be held in our business email and relevant service records.
You can browse our website without submitting your contact details. Where practical, you may make a general enquiry anonymously or using a pseudonym. We may need accurate contact and property details to respond, prepare a quotation, arrange access or carry out work. If necessary information is not provided, we may be unable to complete those steps. Required fields are identified on the online form.
4. Why we use information
We use personal information to respond to enquiries; prepare and follow up quotations; arrange, carry out and support our services; communicate about appointments or work; maintain customer and business records; manage invoices, payments and warranties; and address feedback, disputes or complaints.
We also use relevant information to operate and protect our website and business systems, investigate technical problems or misuse, and meet legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Submitting an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to promotional emails or SMS messages. If we send promotional communications, we will do so in accordance with applicable requirements and provide a way to opt out. You can also contact us to stop promotional communications. Necessary service communications, such as messages about an appointment you have requested, are separate from promotional communications.
5. When we share information
We share information only where reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose or otherwise permitted or required by law. Recipients can include staff and contractors involved in responding to your enquiry or carrying out your work; suppliers or manufacturers supporting an installation or warranty; and advisers, insurers, regulators or authorities where relevant.
Service providers supporting our business may also handle information on our behalf. These include website hosting, form processing, email, technology support and business administration providers. Our website uses Base44, and our online enquiry form uses Jotform. External map services receive technical requests when their map content loads.
We limit the information shared to what is reasonably needed and take appropriate steps to address confidentiality and privacy when engaging service providers. A provider’s own privacy terms may also explain information it handles for its own service operations. Those terms do not replace our responsibilities for information we handle.
6. Overseas handling
Some service providers operate internationally. Personal information handled through our website hosting and online form services may be stored or accessed outside Australia, including in the United States. The locations involved depend on the provider, its service arrangements and our account configuration.
Where an overseas disclosure is subject to Australian privacy requirements, we take the steps those requirements call for, including considering appropriate safeguards. We do not represent that all website or enquiry information remains in Australia. Contact us for further information about overseas handling.
7. Storage, security and retention
We hold information in relevant electronic business systems and, where necessary, physical records. We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect it against loss, misuse, interference and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Access is limited according to business needs.
No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure. Contact us promptly if you believe information you have provided to us has been compromised.
We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including relevant service, warranty, accounting, legal and dispute-resolution requirements. Different types of records may need to be kept for different periods. When information is no longer required and there is no obligation to retain it, we take reasonable steps to securely destroy or de-identify it, including addressing copies held by relevant service providers.
8. Access, correction and deletion requests
You can contact us to request access to personal information we hold about you or to ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, irrelevant or misleading. We may need to verify your identity or an authorised representative’s authority before acting.
We aim to respond within 30 days. If additional time is needed, we will explain why. We do not charge for requesting a correction or for correcting your information. If we cannot provide access or make a requested correction, we will explain the reason, subject to applicable law, and how you can raise a complaint.
You may also ask us to delete information. We will consider the request in light of why we hold the information and any applicable retention requirements. This is not an unconditional right to immediate deletion of all records.
9. Privacy concerns and complaints
Please raise privacy questions or complaints using the contact details below and describe the information or incident concerned. We will acknowledge your concern, review relevant records and practices, and aim to provide a response within 30 days. If more time is needed, we will explain the delay and keep you informed.
If you are not satisfied with our response, or we have not responded within a reasonable period, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where the matter falls within its jurisdiction. The OAIC provides information about making a privacy complaint and can be contacted on 1300 363 992.
10. External websites and changes
Our website includes links to external services, including mapping and social media websites. When you follow those links, the external provider’s privacy practices apply to your use of its service.
We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices or applicable requirements. The date above identifies the latest revision. We will provide additional notice where required by law.
